As parents, we all want to give our children a much better foundation than we had ourselves. That’s one of the reasons we homeschool them, for we know that by tailoring their education and taking every opportunity afforded to us to point them to Jesus, we are giving them a huge head start to be prepared for whatever God has in store for the next phase of their life. This week, we’re chatting with Linda Carlson about some great ideas and opportunities that are available for us to teach our children sound financial principles that will reap benefits in their lives for years to come. (And you may even learn some yourself!) 🙂
I told you last week that when David and I did my time inventory, he got a much clearer view of what I do each day—and a much greater appreciation for homeschooling. He was already a spectacular homeschool dad, but he has learned quite a bit himself through the years, and I talked him into sharing his heart with your today. Feel free to grab your husband and join us for this week’s discussion.
One of the questions that so many people ask me is “how can I possibly get everything done in a day?” When you take a birds-eye view of educating your children while still keeping them fed, clean, and nurtured– and STILL managing your home and being a wife, it can get overwhelming. This week, let’s look at time and try to find ways to use it better, so we can always have it available for what is truly important in our day.
‘Tis the season to head into homeschool or back to homeschool, and there are some pretty easy ways to make sure that you have the best school year ever. Let’s discuss 3 of those ways to set your heart and your course for this new school year.
Have you noticed how often we jump to conclusions in this day and age? We read a headline and fill in the blanks with whatever we THINK goes there without taking the time to dig deeper to find out what really happened and why. In parenting, we can often do the same thing if we’re not careful. This week, let’s chat about the importance of not jumping to conclusions and how taking the time to have even difficult conversations with our children can prove to be an incredible discipleship time.
There are so many things to learn about homeschooling, parenting, and managing your household. This week, I’ve asked a couple of TTD favorites, Sonya Shafer and Jessica Hager, to answer some questions about homeschooling multiple ages at once.
What do we do about SUMMER when we homeschool? For some families, it’s business as usual, continuing much of their same routine year round. For others, it’s a wonderful time of complete break from school. For many more, there is a bit of a hybrid approach to those hot summer months. This week, let’s discuss Summer school in home education.
Discouragement is something that all of us deal with from time to time. This week, let’s look at some different forms it takes and how we can deal with it practically and Biblically.
After thinking through your big picture reason for why you are doing what you’re doing, this week, we’re going to look briefly at long term planning– what are you looking for in your children and what pitfalls should you avoid as they are growing up?
There has been a huge shift in homeschooling in general where more and more families are running away from something when they start. That type of a reason generally isn’t sufficient to keep you in the game long-term. This week, we’ll look at why you finding a bigger reason to homeschool to give us something we really should be running towards.
While preparing for a Summer Bucket List video, the Lord redirected Leslie’s thoughts to what needs to be FIRST priority on any list. This week, we’re talking practically about how to know God better and more intimately this summer. That will set a solid foundation for all your discipleship efforts in the days ahead.

This week, Leslie chats with Hal and Melanie Young of Raising Real Men to talk about raising BOTH boys and girls together. From birth, we all know they’re different, so how should our parenting change from one to the other (or should it?) Check out this week’s conversation for some great insights into that question. (There are some audio and video hiccups through this week’s chat, so please be patient. The content was too good for us to scrap the conversation altogether!) 🙂
Get a peek into the relationship of a homeschool mom and her high school son. With graduation and college on the horizon, what are some of the most valuable lessons they’ve learned together?
Sometimes it’s just nice to know how to answer some of the questions we get as home educators. When it comes to allowing our children to move, homeschoolers are well ahead of the curve! Get the research and facts about the effect of movement in education and learn how well you are doing in this very critical area for your children. (I think you’ll be very encouraged!)
As the weather gets nicer, we have the opportunity to mix things up a bit in our homeschools and shake the winter blues away. This week we’ll talk about some of those ideas as well as talk a bit about how to allow our children to live boldly, even when it causes fear for us parents.
We have talked a lot about how to raise our children God’s way, but what can we learn about how not to do it? This week, we’ll discuss what discipleship-focused parenting does not look like.
Is there really a way to know God’s perfect plan for parenting children His way? Is there really a parenting manual to be found? Let’s discuss that this week as we chat about Raising Children of Promise.
Leslie is joined this week by Carol Topp as they talk about Raising Adults. This conversation is insightful and incredibly helpful as Carol and Leslie discuss raising teens, when you should start preparing your children for different elements of growing up, and so much more!
This week, Leslie kicks off a month of focusing on Parenting as she is joined by Ann Dunagan to chat about Raising Mission-Minded Children. Be sure to check out the resources listed below for some fabulous FREE helps as you endeavor to instill in your children a love for God and others.
