Tanya Whitfield is the co-founder of Comm. Central Academy, a homeschool program that began in 2009 with just 30 students and has since grown to serve more than 450. Deeply passionate about fostering a love of learning, Tanya has taught students from 7th grade through high school, specializing in the liberal arts. With over 18 years of teaching experience and the personal journey of homeschooling her four children through graduation, she understands the joys and challenges of homeschooling firsthand.
Together with co-founder Kristi Eckerd, Tanya developed a curriculum that draws on the strength of Classical education and the rich literary tradition of Charlotte Mason while incorporating their own innovative philosophy—Unique Design. Unique Design equips students to discover their God-given gifts and engage learning in creative, meaningful ways, setting Comm. Central apart. As the academy has grown, it has expanded to two new branches in Central Arkansas. In addition, the Comm. Central curriculum is now available online, allowing families nationwide to utilize the curriculum through a supportive online community or launch a local academy built on Comm. Central’s model.
Beyond her work in education, Tanya enjoys paddleboarding, hiking, biking, and camping with her husband of 29 years, and creating wholesome recipes to nourish her family.
