What is the Plan of Salvation?
“God our Savior,... desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. For there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself a ransom for all...”
Why a Ransom?
According to Romans 5:8, God demonstrated His love for us through the death of His Son. Why did Christ have to die for us? Because the Bible declares that “all have sinned and fall short of the glory (or the perfect standard) of God” (Rom. 3:23). God is entirely righteous, and therefore He cannot tolerate sin. Our sin separates us from Him like a giant chasm that is impossible for us to get across.
Your iniquities (sins) have made a separation between you and your God, and your sins have hidden His face from you so that He does not hear.
But God demonstrates His own love for us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
Jesus as Lord
But God loved us so much that He sent us His only son in order to pay the debt that we couldn’t. Jesus came to earth, lived a perfect, wholly-righteous life, and died on a cross in order to cover the costs of our sin (John 3:16). Then He rose again three days later to prove that He had power over death and hell.
To be saved, you must believe and confess Jesus as your Lord (Romans 10:9). Admit that you are inadequet and that you recognize Him as the only way of salvation. Surrender your heart and the rest of your life to His perfect will.
Jesus calls this moment the “new birth.” He told Nicodemus that “except a man be born again, he cannot see the Kingdom of God” (John 3:3).
If you are ready to be made new, if you believe that Jesus did this work on your behalf, and you are willing to accept His free offer of grace, then considering praying this prayer:
Dear God,
I realize that I am a sinner and could never be good enough, or work hard enough, to earn Your favor. I see that my sin has separated us, I am sorry, and I ask You to forgive me.
I believe that Your son Jesus Christ died for me, was resurrected, and is alive today and eager to answer my prayer. I want to surrender my heart and make you my Lord and my Savior. I give You control of my life and ask that Your will be accomplished in me.
Thank You for accepting me as I am now and for promising to work in my life to perfect me for Your kingdom.
