She holds a B.S. from Gordon College in Elementary Education and Spanish, an M.S.Ed. from Northern Illinois University in Literacy Education, and an M.A. in Christian Apologetics from Biola University. Elizabeth spent the first decade of her professional career as an elementary teacher in a Christian school.Several years into her teaching experience, Elizabeth realized that despite being raised in Christian homes, attending a Christian school, and being active in church, her students thought more like the culture than like Christ. Elizabeth began searching for curricular materials that would equip her students to think critically, helping them discover that Christianity is the worldview that lines up with reality. After not finding any materials that met this need, she began creating a curriculum for her students.Elizabeth first taught Foundation Comparative Worldview Curriculum as an after-school class for third through fifth graders, and the results were incredible! Students were transformed from passive recipients of information to active evaluators of every message they receive. Parents and teachers alike noticed the impact these materials had on students’ media consumption, academic achievement, and everyday habits. This transformation lasted beyond the elementary years and guided students’ thinking in junior high and beyond.Elizabeth now works full-time on developing comparative worldview and apologetics resources for children. Her goal is to prepare the next generation to be lifelong critical thinkers and, most importantly, lifelong disciples of Jesus Christ. Ryan participated in two international mission trips with Teen Missions Int’l (TMI) in his teenage years. Erin participated in three mission trips through her local church. Ryan & Erin met in college and spent the first ten years of their marriage as “tent-makers” traveling throughout the United States, wherever Ryan’s job as a Civil Engineer would lead, ministering through the local churches in the various communities in which they would land. During these 10 years of constant travel, Ryan and Erin cultivated a desire to work with teenagers and explored their respective calling to the mission field by leading teams with TMI to Greece in 2002 and Poland in 2003. After these two summer experiences, the Fasts began a journey towards becoming full-time missionaries with Teen Missions. This is the beginning of our series on "gratitude"!  So, join us for this foundational study on Thanksgiving for Families! (Leviticus 7: 12-15) There are few things that will impact your life more positively than understanding and cultivating thanksgiving in your own heart and mind. The ripple effect of a thankful heart can be seen not only in you, but also in the lives of those around you. So, let's start today! Transcript:[00:00:00] David Nunnery: Hello. This is David Nunnery, and thank you for joining me on the Homeschool Family podcast by Teach Them Diligently where we discuss marriage, parenting, discipleship, homeschool, and everything else that comes into play when you're following God's plan for your family. Today, I've taken over the podcast to talk about thanksgiving, and in case you haven't realized that, I don't know if you can hear the bird, uh, back here in the background, but I am outside on my back porch.[00:00:29] And I thought this would be a nice environment to talk about thanksgiving. And in October of about a year ago, uh, the Lord directed me to thanksgiving. I was having a morning devotion, and I actually was struggling one morning with what I was going to start on. I was-had finished up a study and I wanted to start a new one and I was actually struggling a little bit, and I was floating [00:01:00] around and I came across thanksgiving and it was about October of that year.[00:01:04] And ever since then, I have literally not been able to get away from it. It has been a subject that has stuck with me and now I can't- I can't hardly study anything in the Bible. Every story and teaching that I come across in the Bible, I end up looking through this lens of thanksgiving, and what has happened is, is that I have actually come to the point where I believe that thanksgiving is foundational in our understanding of the scriptures.[00:01:35] I think that it is transformational. And over the last year, I have studied every mention of thanks, thanksgiving, gratitude in the Bible. There are over 160 of these in the old and new Testament. And I think each one of these are instructive to us. And I believe there are a few things that will impact your [00:02:00] life more positively than understanding and cultivating thanksgiving in your own heart. And I think the ripple effect of a thankful heart can be seen not only in your own heart and mind. But I also think that it impacts your physical health. I think it impacts your home.[00:02:20] I think it impacts those that are around you, the relationships that you have around you. I even think that people can see it from a long ways away-is evident in you. I think you can see it in the brightness of people's eyes. I think you can see it in their smile. I think that a person that has cultivated a thankful heart lights up a room.[00:02:47] I really do believe that. And so I want to actually share with you what God has shown me, in studying thanks giving over the last year. [00:03:00] And so we are actually going to go through literally every mention of thanks or thanksgiving. Again, i was saying before, there's 160 of them, and I don't plan on doing this on one podcast.[00:03:10] So, you know, it's, it's OK. Each of these are going to be about 20 minutes long, but I wanted to actually take the time, and I wanted to share with you what I have learned and am learning regarding thanksgiving because I think I still have a lot to learn. My goal is to go through every single one of the references, and I believe that you will benefit the most from this study of thanksgiving by me unpacking each of these references.[00:03:39] And so we're going to be here for a while. We are going to have a lot of segments of this series on thanksgiving, and I'm going to do it through podcasts, and each podcast is going to be transcribed. Transcription of "Are you still homeschooling. What an unusual question." Leslie: [theme music playing] Hey there, and welcome to the Teach Them Diligently podcast where we discuss marriage, parenting, discipleship, homeschooling, and everything else that comes into play when you're following God's plan for your family. We are David and Leslie Nunnery, and today we're going to be talking about an unusual question I was asked recently. We hope that through it, you'll get a fresh view of how God can use you as parents, as you invest in your children. We're so glad you're here. So let's jump in. Leslie: [theme music ends] So David, I was asked before an interview not too long ago, a most unusual question, and it got me thinking. So let me throw out the question for you and then see how you are impacted by it. I was asked before I did an interview the other day, "are you still homeschooling?" And I thought, what a very unusual question to ask us. when we have kids still in the home, we are doing all of this stuff. So, um, I thought we'd talk about that today because are we, are we still homeschooling David? David: Yeah, absolutely we are. Leslie: How many? David: Well, we have one in college. He still lives at home. Leslie: Uh, he still sleeps at home [laughter]. Let's clarify. David: He still sleeps at home, that's true. Three. Leslie: We have three. David: We have three, and we are homeschooling. Leslie: Why? Why are we still homeschooling when, um, there's so much stuff to do. There's so many opportunities. There's so much going on. Why are we still doing this? David: Our belief around homeschooling is anchored in the fact that we believe is the best way to disciple our kids. And it's much deeper than the education part of this. It's much deeper than the place. Meaning, do they go to co-op? Do they go to dual credit or you know, at a college? Are they at home all day long? We're not trying to insulate them. We're not trying to protect them from the evil school system. It is about discipleship and because it is about discipleship and because we believe that it's the best way to disciple our kids is to be around them all the time. We have stuck with it and we've had opportunity to move on. Matter of fact, you know, uh, uh, I don't know how many people know this story, but we actually took our kids out of a really good private school. We actually moved down here from Lexington, Kentucky, and when we moved down here to Greenville, South Carolina, we were excited because we were finally going to be able to put our kids in the private school that we wanted.
