Sentence diagramming, love it or hate it. That’s the water cooler chat at the Teach Them Diligently conventions for those of us working our way through the basics of grammar. Personally I loved learning diagramming but didn’t like to teach it. When I was searching for a curriculum to teach my elementary children grammar I looked for something that would hold my hand and walk me through diagramming. Sadly when I went looking for grammar curriculum this was one of the few guide posts I had. Thanks to very generous fellow homeschooling families sharing what worked for them, you will have an easier path to find a grammar curriculum for your family!

Subjects, predicates, nouns, verbs, and so much more can be taught easily through a broad variety of ways. Here are the best language arts curricula according to our fellow Teach Them Diligently parents. Whether you want the structure and stability of a box curriculum (meaning you choose the grade level and by the complete grade curriculum for that subject) or a more informal curriculum where you use writing prompts and living books to teach parts of grammar. Perhaps a hybrid is what your family needs where you can get a strong text to work off of as a spine to your year but you add in unit studies and enrichment.

We asked our fellow homeschooling Teach Them Diligently families what do you recommend as an Elementary Grammar & Writing curriculum choice? We compiled their choices about this and 39 other levels and subjects of curriculum in our FREE Homeschool Family Favorite Guide .

Don’t forget we don’t have to teach all things grammar and writing this year. The elementary years are a steady upward incline of learning. There will be times our children leap forward in knowledge and understanding and other times they just slowly move onward. There are years ahead for you to teach what they need to know before they get to the middle school years.

Just a heads up, if you get to the middle school years and find you have missed something along the way don’t fear. A preteen can comprehend and memorize material at a much higher faster rate than a 1st grader. Any gaps in learning can be filled in when you discover them.
