Imporance of Dischipleship

The Importance of Discipleship

“Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” (Proverbs 22:6)

Isn’t that the cry of every Christian parent’s heart?  We desire for our children to stay in the faith, to serve the Lord with all their heart, soul, mind and strength, and to Love God and others more than they love themselves.

Will that happen by chance, though?  Of course not!  Satan is walking about seeking to devour our children even this very minute.  But praise God, we can trust that “greater is He that is in you, than he that is in the world.” (I John 4:4b)

I need to repeat that again– shouting it from the top of my lungs– “GREATER IS HE THAT IS IN YOU, THAN HE THAT IS IN THE WORLD!!”

Discipleship in our homes is paramount to fulfilling the mission Jesus Christ gave us when He was still on the earth.  We are to be Christ’s witnesses in “Jerusalem, Judea, and the uttermost parts of the earth.”  David and I have always looked at our home as our Jerusalem.  This is the place we live. This is where our sphere of influence is greatest. This is where the stakes are highest.  This is where our mission begins!!

What does discipleship look like? Today, many moms from a variety of backgrounds and with children at a variety of ages will be weighing in on the subject. These moms will give you some great ideas if you’re looking for a place to start. They’ll pour out wisdom and insight gained from many years “in the trenches” in their own Jerusalems. And they’ll encourage your hearts as you make discipleship in your home a priority.

But why don’t you share with us, too?  What are some insights you have gained over the years of discipling your children?  What are some of the best discipleship resources you have found?  What encouragement would you give to the young moms who are just starting their discipleship journey? Share your thoughts with us below!!
