Most of us are homeschool moms. We like having our children with us all the time. We don’t generally outsource ANYTHING, especially for our younger ones, so I field a lot of questions about our children’s programs at Teach Them Diligently. I wanted to give you a very personal, very detailed look at how and why we produce these programs as well as why you don’t want your children to miss the opportunity to meet Patch The Pirate this year!
Why Do We Produce Children’s Programs at Teach Them Diligently Conventions?
Teach Them Diligently events are produced with the entire family in mind, and we endeavor to meet as many of the needs of individual families as we possibly can as we seek to minister to the families who join us. By offering a children’s program, we are able to accomplish several things. We provide a fun and safe opportunity for your children, so they will look forward to coming to convention as much (or more!) than you do. Two and a half days of workshops is a lot for a young child, and allowing them to learn God’s Word while they have a wonderful time with a large group of other children is a great alternative.
The children’s program at Teach Them Diligently is entirely optional. If your family prefers to stay together, you are more than welcome to do so. Your children may accompany you to the workshops and vendor hall. We even have some special surprises for your children in the vendor hall to add a little extra fun to their day while you shop, so stay tuned for more details about that!
What are the Safety Protocols for the Teach Them Diligently Children’s Program?
David and I have four children, and we are keenly aware of the need for strict safety protocol in our children’s programs. There will be a large number of children in each program, so we put a lot of thought into the security details.
- All adults serving in the children’s program will have undergone a background check to ensure that there is nothing on record that would be of concern when working with children.
- Only those with proper credentials are allowed in the children’s program area. There will be special colored wristbands for parents of children enrolled in the children’s program, which is different than the normal adult wristband. Only adults wearing that wristband will be allowed into the children’s program area. All children in the program will also have special wristbands, so we don’t have any extra children wander in that we may not be able to account for.
- Children will also wear color-coded name badges throughout the event. We color code them by age, so at a glance our workers can tell where that child is supposed to be. On the front of the card, you will write your child’s name and on the back you will write your name and onsite contact number. In the case of emergency, we will call or text that number immediately.
- Parents will sign their children in and out at the designated times. We get a lot of questions about this point, but we really need to have the children come in and out at the proper times as much as possible for security reasons. If children are filtering in and out throughout the session, we run a much greater chance of a security breach than we do if we have organized, designated drop off and pick up times. In the case of emergency or special circumstances, of course, we will work with you.
Who is Patch The Pirate?
There are few people that God has used in my own life more than Patch the Pirate. Even today, I regularly sing his songs to comfort, counsel, and encourage myself. The Lord has gifted him with the unique talent to teach children deep doctrinal and practical truths through song and stories in a way that will stick with them forever.
We have raised our children on Patch adventures and songs as well, and they, too, can be heard singing Patch’s songs as they go about their day. I will do an entire article sometime on how Patch’s ministry has affected our family, but for now, I wanted to give you a taste of his ministry through the following video compiled after his 35th anniversary concert this year. How can your children resist the opportunity to join Patch’s crew? They will even be doing a concert for all their parents at the end of the Convention!!
What is IncrediWorld?
Patch the Pirate wants you to join his crew! Sail with them at the 2015 Teach Them Diligently Homeschool Conventions and explore God’s incredibly awesome creation! On their ship, the Jolly Roger, they’ll cruise through God’s IncrediWorld, learning biblical truths through stories, games, and songs. Oh, and there may even be a pirate adventure or two in store for you! At the end of the convention, those in the children’s program will produce a short concert for their parents displaying all that they learned that weekend.
The swashbuckling starts soon, so sign up today! Until January 1st, it is only $40 per child for the entire program. After January 1, the price will go up to $45 per child.
Subscribe to the Newsletter and receive the free audio ‘Days of Creation’ from Patch The Pirate’s INCREDIWORLD adventure! That adventure is one of our family’s favorites, and we KNOW that your children will love it.
We look forward to seeing you and your family in 2015! If you have any further questions about our children’s program, please leave them in the comments below, and I will answer them as quickly as possible.
