On June 18–19, 2013, your family has the opportunity to engage in something big! The Creation Museum and BJU Press are working together to provide a wonderful fine arts experience for your family: Summer Stretch! This is a unique opportunity and worthy of your time and consideration.
Your child might want to enroll in The Art of Puppetry workshop where your child can sculpt his own finger puppet, and learn how to make puppets appear to breathe, have eye contact, and speak. He will learn from Rachel Fisher, who has 30 years of experience as a university teacher of drama and speech, and has directed or produced puppet adaptations of several stories.
Is your child a writer? God’s written Word is a gift: communicated to man by an almighty God. As a homeschool parent it is important to encourage and teach the all-important communication tool of writing. Summer Stretch is pleased to offer your child the opportunity to be taught by Dawn Watkins, author of picture books and children’s novels in her workshop: Writing with Real Things: How to Make a Poem Speak. Your child can use concrete images to make a strong piece of writing, and leave with a poem that really is his own.
Having experts like Rachel Fisher and Dawn Watkins teach these workshops, allows your child to learn from experts in their field.
Speaking of experts, Ben Davis, began public speaking while he was still in high school, competing in the NCFCA debate league. He has contributed academic papers on American public speaking at communication conferences and has earned an MA in Rhetoric and Public Address. Your child has the occasion to learn from Ben in his is workshop entitled, Lincoln, the Young Public Speaker, where he can discover Lincoln’s journey to become one of the greatest speakers, and explore how his themes impact us today.
To be or not to be…… If acting is your child’s forte, he has the privilege of enrolling in a workshop entitled Acting: A Great Part for Homeschoolers, by Gary Moore, who has been a professional actor for 40 years. Gary has acted in commercials, TV shows, and films and has been the voice for Arby’s Jr., Coffee-Mate, and the Ram for Stride Spark Gum. You can even see him on TV this June on the GMC Channel in the feature film, “Jimmy,” and in the soon-to-be-released award-winning film, “Return to the Hiding Place.” He will share that homeschoolers have a better opportunity to get into auditions than their traditionally schooled peers and about how to help your child to get parts in dramas or making a little extra money doing voice work at home.
Are your children gifted in illustration and design? Experts, Del Thompson & Elly Kalagayan oversee the talented team of individuals who bring BJU Press book covers, pages, and advertising to life with their designs and illustrations. Their years of experience and creative flair merge into a fun, informative, and visually engaging presentation that will help to inspire your creative children to use and enjoy their talents for Christ.
Learn ways to use your imagination to the glory of God and have fun doing it by participating in the workshop Creativity Matters: A Design and Illustration Presentation.
In addition to engaging workshops, and expert teachers, you can attend Wednesday morning’s session with Ken Ham, and explore the Creation Museum, the state-of-the-art, 70,000-square-foot museum that brings the pages of the Bible to life, casting its characters and animals into dynamic form and placing them into familiar settings. Adam and Eve live in the Garden of Eden. Children play and dinosaurs roam near Eden’s rivers.
For $25 per person (ages 12 and up), you get admission to the workshops, a tour of the Creation Museum, and a session with Ken Ham. And when at least one person per family participates in the workshops for $25, other family members can tour the Creation Museum and sit in on Ken Ham’s special session for just $10! (Children under the age of 5 get in free.)
