Elyse Fitzpatrick has been counseling women since 1989. She holds a certificate in biblical counseling from CCEF (San Diego) and an M.A. in Biblical Counseling from Trinity Theological Seminary. She is also a member of the National Association of Nouthetic Counseling. Elyse is the author of numerous books including, including the award winning Women Helping Women, Love to Eat, Hate to Eat, Overcoming Fear, Worry and Anxiety, and You Never Stop Being A Parent. In addition to writing – a lot – Elyse also speaks a lot at women’s conferences. What she’s most proud of, however, is her three children and six really adorable grandchildren. Along with her husband Phil, Elyse is a member of Valley Center Community Church. In 2010, Elyse and her duaghter collaborated on the book Give them Grace: Dazzling Your Kids with the Love of Jesus. This book will be a great encouragement to you and your family as it explores what makes Christian parenting distinctly Christian. (As a mom of 4, I (Leslie) have been greatly blessed and challenged as I have read this book… I highly recommend it to all Christian parents!)
Jessica Thompson grew up in Southern California. After graduation from high school, she completed a Bachelor’s degree in Theology and married her
sweetheart, Cody Thompson. Together, they have three children – Wesley, Hayden, and Allie, whom she (joyfully?) homeschools. Together, they serve at Westview Church, an Acts 29 church plant in north San Diego County. When not homeschooling, Jessica helps her mother (Elyse Fitzpatrick) with correspondence and scheduling conferences. She even speaks sometimes herself! A confirmed California girl, Jessica loves the best, daily walks, and, most of all, her beloved San Diego Padres. Elyse will be speaking in Omaha and Jessica will be joining us in Spartanburg and Omaha.
Queen Homeschool Supplies, Inc. was started by Keith and Sandi Queen in 1994 when homeschooling mom Sandi Queen was urged by a fellow homeschool support group leader to publish some of the books Sandi had written for her own children, so they might be available to others. Since those first few books (“From Girl….to Woman!” and the “My First Pets Phonetic Readers”) were published, the company has expanded to publish several hundred Charlotte Mason style books from a Christian perspective, including those from a number of other authors. As a Certified Holistic Wellness Professional, Sandi Queen has been studying naturopathic treatments for many years, and is also a Certified Aromatouch Technique technician, as well as an Independent Product Consultant for doTERRA essential oils. You can visit that site at mydoterra.com/sandiqueen for more information. Today, the Queen family, including Keith and Sandi’s six children, all of whom are also published authors, continue to run this company, along with several others, from their office and warehouse in New Freeport, Pennsylvania, as well as homeschooling their youngest children. At last year’s Teach Them Diligently Convention, Sandi was among the favorite speakers of the weekend. We are certain you will enjoy hearing her in 2013 in Spartanburg and Nashville.
In 2004, Anthony and his sister Jessica stumbled into filmmaking through a homeschool history project. Excited about their first family project, they submitted their short film into the San Antonio Independent Christian Film Festival and placed as a Finalist in their Young Filmmaker’s category. Their love for storytelling began to grow with passion and skill as top producers introduced them to the Christian film industry. Today, their latest animated film, JERICHO: The Promise
Fulfilled, has been seen by thousands of people across the globe. This family team travels the country sharing what they have learned and encouraging families to work together as formidable unit to produce films with excellence. Their workshops were so full last year that he agreed to hold even more sessions to allow everyone to hear. You will not want to miss hearing Anthony and Jessica in Spartanburg and Nashville.
More Information About the Four-12 Servant Leadership Track
The idea of serving others is not a very popular one in today’s world. Still, this is the example Jesus leaves for us, both as He washes the feet of His disciples and as He promises that “the least shall be the most.” It’s that spirit of servant leadership that drives the Four-12 Servant Leadership Track. Sponsored by The Wilds Christian Camp, the Leadership Track gives your teen the privilege of serving the Lord during the convention, while also offering them an opportunity to sit under the teaching of some of the finest speakers on the subject of serving others. On a personal note, the Lord has used each of these men to help shape my own spiritual growth since I was a teenager. I am so thankful for their faithful ministry through the years, and it is a privilege to be able to serve alongside them.
At age eleven, Ken Collier accepted Christ as his Savior at a Christian camp in Alabama. In the years to follow, the Lord continued to use camping ministries to mold his life for service for the Lord. After receiving his degree in Church Administration at Bob Jones University, Ken joined THE WILDS full-time staff. He has served faithfully as the Program Director and Assistant Director. He currently serves as the Director of THE WILDS in North Carolina. In January of 2007 he became president of the organization as well. Ken has participated in every summer program in the history of the camp. In addition to his camp responsibilities, he is active in his local church. He has also co-authored a book, Biblical Leadership, with Matt Williams from Northland Ministries. Along with his wife Mardi, Ken has the opportunity to minister to many couples as they speak at couples’ conferences across the country. He also speaks at Senior Leadership Conferences in an effort to teach the next generation of Christians how to become more like their Savior and then help others. Ken also has been privileged to be a partner with Ron Hamilton in the writing and voicing of the Patch the Pirate recordings for the past twenty years. Ken lives year-round at the North Carolina campsite. He and his wife, Mardi, have three married sons, one married daughter, and nine grandchildren.

Matt Herbster graduated from Bob Jones University in 1995 with a bachelor of arts in Bible. During the summers he worked at THE WILDS. After college he married Julie Setchfield and continued his education at Heart of America Theological Seminary in Kansas City, Missouri; he received a master of arts in Pastoral Studies in 1997. Matt and Julie then moved to THE WILDS North Carolina campsite where Matt served on the program staff and helped frequently in the music department with song leading and special music. In the Fall of 2004, he assumed the responsibilities of program director at THE WILDS. Matt and Julie have five children: Sarah, Nathan, Abbie, Annie and Jonathan.
Children of all ages are very important, and at Teach Them Diligently, we know that each child develops at his own pace. That’s why we’re offering parents the option to use their own discernment in selecting programming for their 12 year olds. Feel like they’ll benefit from being grouped with others in the age-specific ‘squadrons’ of the Battle 4 Truth program? They’re more than welcome to Enlist! Or they would be welcome in Apologia’s Four-12 Teen Track. As we did last year, we are also working on special offerings specific to this age group to be held throughout the weekend. Our suggestion is that you stay plugged in to our blog and read more about each program as the information becomes available. Once you’ve seen what’s in store, you’ll be better equipped to make an informed decision as to the best fit for your child.
