Education comes easily to Debra, whose parents were both public school teachers. She holds a B.S. in communications education and a Masters in English. Currently, she is a doctoral candidate in educational psychology at Temple University in Philadelphia, PA. Debra blogs regularly about education, brain science and homeschooling through her website debrabell.com. Debra will be joining us at all three Teach Them Diligently Conventions in 2013.
A second-generation homeschooler (his family began homeschooling in 1978!), Israel Wayne is committed to continuing the tradition of home education. With his wife Brooke, Israel homeschools his seven young children. He also writes prolifically about the movement, defending the Christian faith, and developing a Biblical worldview. Based in Michigan, Israel’s books include Homeschooling from a Biblical Worldview and Full-Time Parenting: a Guide to Family-Based Discipleship. Israel desires to see God’s people learn to think and live Biblically. Aiming for both the head and the heart, Israel’s goal is to challenge audiences to take every thought captive and make it obedient to Christ. In his words, “God’s Word applies to all areas of life. There is not one facet of our existence which does not fall under the direct claim of Lordship by Jesus Christ. This includes how we spend our money, what entertainment we consume, how we educate our children, how we use our time, etc. All of life must be understood from within a Biblical worldview.” Israel will be joining us in Spartanburg and Nashville next year.

Norm Wakefield and his wife Alma are homeschooling pioneers. Living in Bulverde, Texas, the Wakefields began homeschooling their four children in 1984; today, they continue to assist in the homeschooling of their 14 grandchildren. All of this experience led Norm to found The Spirit of Elijah Ministries, International, which he still directs. Norm has been a keynote and conference speaker at state and international homeschool conventions since 1992. God has given him a pastor/teacher’s heart to teach how the gospel applies to all relationships and circumstances in life. His knowledge of Jesus Christ and the Scriptures coupled with his homeschool experience enables him to specifically speak to the many challenges homeschool parents, children, and young adults face on a daily basis. What makes Norm unique is that he speaks from his heart to the hearts of his listeners with a reliance upon the Spirit and presence of Jesus Christ. You’ll find his messages biblical, practical, inspirational, and encouraging. His sessions drew overflowing crowds in 2012 and many ordered his workshops, so we’re confident you will benefit from hearing him again (in bigger rooms!) in 2013. Jenny Martin is the writer behind SouthernSavers.com, one of the leading frugal living websites in the South. Her goal is to teach a purposeful, relaxed approach to saving money on almost everything you buy. As a mom of three little girls six and under, Jenny’s focus is on finding ways to coupon, deal hunt, and shop in the quickest, most time conserving manner – that way you can get back to what’s truly important, like playing games and coloring with the kids! In the blogging world, Jenny has seen Southern Savers grow into a community of over 1.5 million users. While running a large community takes a lot of time (and help), Jenny balances blogging time with puzzles and dress up. She is passionate about mom’s not getting lost in coupons and forgetting their focus. Really anything you start doing to save money is better than what you were doing. Jenny will be helping us learn to make the most of our money in Spartanburg.

First and foremost a child of God, she’s passionate about glorifying Him and making the most of her days on this earth. She’s also a homeschool graduate, sister to six, and daughter of the best parents ever.
