You could say that “Multi-Tasking” is his middle name. Voddie Baucham is a husband, father, pastor, author, professor, conference speaker, and church planter. Tired yet?! Currently serving as the Pastor of Preaching at Grace Family Baptist Church in Spring, TX, Voddie’s area of emphasis is Cultural Apologetics. In other words, he helps ordinary people understand the significance of thinking and living Biblically in every area of life. With his wife Bridget, Voddie is a committed home educator to the Baucham’s seven children – Jasmine, Trey (Voddie, III), Elijah, Asher, Judah, Micah, and Safya. He holds degrees from Houston Baptist University (BA in Sociology), Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary (M.Div.), Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary (D.Min.), and Southern California Seminary (honorary D.D) and has done additional post graduate study at the University of Oxford, England (Regent’s Park College). Dr. Baucham was a favorite speaker at this year’s Teach Them Diligently Convention, and we are thrilled to have him join us next year in Omaha.
Since moving to America in 1987, Australian Ken Ham—president and founder of Answers in Genesis-U.S., the highly acclaimed Creation Museum (over 1.5 million visitors in four years), and visionary behind the construction of a full-size Noah’s Ark—has become one of the most in-demand Christian conference speakers and talk show guests. A biblical apologist, Ken gives numerous faith-building talks to tens of thousands of children and adults each year (he receives hundreds of invitations to speak annually) on such topics as the reliability of the Bible, how compromise over biblical authority has undermined society and even the church (which is seeing a massive exodus of young people), witnessing more effectively, dinosaurs, “races,” etc. Ken co-founded AiG in 1994 with the purpose of upholding the authority of the Bible from the very first verse. Ken is the author of many books on Genesis, including the eye-opening book Already Gone, co-authored by renowned researcher Britt Beemer on why so many young people have left the church, the best-selling The Lie: Evolution, and a number of children’s books (Dinosaurs of Eden, D is for Dinosaur, A is for Adam, etc.). Other recent co-authored books include One Race, One Blood and How Could a Loving God …?, and http://www.answersingenesis.org/store/sku/10-2-305as co-authored the provocative book Already Compromised about Christian colleges and how they treat the authority of the Bible. Mr. Ham is an exciting speakers that we look forward to hearing at all three Teach Them Diligently Conventions next May!
Heidi knows homeschooling. With the support of her husband Jay, Heidi has instructed (or is instructing, depending on the child!) her seven children – ages 1 to 21! – all the way through high school. With all this experience comes a lot of knowledge, and the St. Johns are committed to sharing that knowledge with up and coming homeschoolers. With her trademark humor and grace, Heidi is a popular speaker at conferences across North America. She is also a popular author, writing The Busy Homeschool Mom’s Guide to Romance: Nurturing Your Marriage Through the Homeschool Years, The Busy Homeschool Mom’s Guide to Daylight, and Words Along the Way, a new journal for moms which emphasizes the joys of journaling through the homeschool years. If all that didn’t keep them busy enough, Heidi and Jay are also the founders and executive directors of First Class Homeschool Ministries. This parachurch organization is dedicated to helping churches start parent-led, Bible-focused homeschool cooperatives that focuses on “the things of first importance” (I Cor 15:3). In operation, since 2000, First Class has over 40 locations across North America. Heidi will be encouraging our hearts in Spartanburg, Nashville, and Omaha.
Four daughters and nearly twenty years into her homeschooling journey, Sonya Shafer is a speaker and author, who specializes in the Charlotte Mason Method. Years of studying, researching, practicing, and teaching Charlotte’s gentle and effective methods of education led to Simply Charlotte Mason, which hosts the simplycharlottemason.com website, a place of practical encouragement to homeschooling families, and publishes Shafer’s many books. One of her books is This Anguishing Blessed Journey: a Mother’s Faith Journal Through Autism. It and encouragement to younger mothers and those dealing with special needs can be found at IntentionalParents.com.
Do you have a child who struggles with reading and spelling? Denise Eide can relate! A homeschool mother of four (ages 14, 12, 12, and 9), some of Denise’s own children faced these difficulties. That led her and her husband to develop Pedia Learning, Inc., a company focused on improving English literacy worldwide through curriculum development, books, educational software, and training. With her nearly 20 years of experience as an educator, speaker, and curriculum designer, Denise is a nationally sought after speaker whose specialty is demystifying English in order to empower participants to become part of a grassroots effort to solve the literacy crisis their communities. In so doing, she gives hope for those who struggle. Denise will be de-mystifying English at all three Teach Them Diligently Conventions next May.
