Strengthen Your Family Through Biblical Homeschooling

Do Not Be Afraid

Most of us know the Christmas story presented in the second chapter of the Gospel of Luke.  “Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to YOU;  He is Christ the Lord” (Luke 2:11). The angels proclaimed the good news of the birth of Jesus Christ.  “Do not be afraid”, we were told as God incarnate came to be “With us” (Emmanuel) as a child in a manger.

“What is man that you are mindful of him, the son of man that you care for him. You made him a little lower than the heavenly beings and crowned him with glory and honor” (Psalm 8:4-5).

This glory and honor that would consist of His crucifixion and resurrection three days later. It is the birth of the Savior of the world that we celebrate at Christmas, but that is only the beginning of the story.  How we live out our faith in this Christ is the rest of the story.

 Led by the light of faith serenely beaming,
With glowing hearts by His cradle we stand.   — O Holy Night

This Christmas it is my prayer for my family and everyone that reads this note that we will stand boldly through the coming years as ambassadors for the Christ Jesus who gave so much for us and that we might illuminate our hearts and minds to the glory of God and His honor for all to see.  Not just with those we love or those that love us, but let us take this good news of great joy and proclaim it to all people God puts in our path.  Just as the Angel of the Lord said to the shepherds in the hills that Holy Night, “Do not be afraid” (Luke 2:10), we should not be afraid or fear evil, for the Lord is with us (Psalm 23).

A thrill of hope the weary world rejoices,
For yonder breaks a new and glorious morn.
Fall on your knees! Oh, hear the angel voices!
O night divine, the night when Christ was born;
O night, O Holy Night , O night divine!
O night, O Holy Night , O night divine!   — O Holy Night
